Who we are
About the Founder
My name is Arielle Rosser, and I’m a secondary English education major at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. I’m originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and I’m the oldest and only girl of five. Growing up with my younger brothers, I became deeply passionate about serving my community, especially in ways that could benefit young Black men, particularly when they may not have other opportunities for support. Mental health has always been incredibly important to me, and I wanted to find a creative way to serve my community while discussing and addressing mental health in youth.
About Means & Matter
Our name is a play on the phrase “mind over matter,” but with a purpose-driven twist. We believe that mental well-being (mind) and access to basic resources (matter) are deeply connected — you can’t prioritize one without the other. “Means” reflects our mission to provide adolescents with the tools, education, and essentials they need to thrive. We have the means, and those that we cater to often do not.
What Makes Us Unique?
The cost of entry to our events is not money — it’s meaning. Attendees bring non-perishable food, hygiene products, or basic necessities that go directly to underprivileged families in need. In doing so, our community comes together to care for both mental and material needs, because healing starts when dignity is restored.
The swan in our logo represents transformation, quiet resilience, and grace under pressure — a symbol of the journey many young people face. Just as a swan appears serene while paddling hard beneath the surface, many adolescents are fighting unseen battles. We aim to meet them with compassion, awareness, and the tools to thrive.
We Have The Means, You Matter.
